Danai Gurira has taken a break from being a badass on The Walking Dead to bring two plays to New York: Familiar, currently at Playwrights Horizons, and Eclipsed, now in previews on Broadway. The Zimbabwean-American playwright stopped by The Late Show to chat with Stephen Colbert. “It hit me how special it is,” she sitting in on one of her shows while the other played just blocks a way. Eclipsed, starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, marks the first Broadway show to feature an all-female cast and creative team—and all are African or of African descent. “We splash a little color on the Great White Way,” Gurira said with a laugh.
